Week Seven

Our mission in lab this week was to complete the coding for the pulse sensor and the flashing LED light.  The coding for the Arduino board is not proceeding as smoothly as we had hoped it would.  When the sensor reads the heart rate, it shows up in a rectangular fashion on the computer compared to normal heart beat lines that should appear.  We are continuing to work on this problem that we believe is stemming from a break in our code.  After we complete the code for the heart rate we need to finish the code for the LED light.  The LED light will blink slowly if the exerciser needs to slow down, blink more quickly if the exerciser needs to speed up, and it will be turned off when the user is working at a good pace.

Another task we needed to accomplish was finalizing the Velcro strap that will attach the Arduino board to the exerciser's wrist.  Luckily, this was worked out fairly easily. We were able to find a way to attach the velcro to the Arduino case so that it can be secured around the user's wrist. We also put a Velcro strap around the pulse sensor itself which can then be attached to the user's finger. Originally, we planned to have the sensor reading the user's heart rate on their wrist, but we seem to get better readings when the sensor is used with the individual's finger. These were our only concerns for the week, other than that we are in prime condition.
